Living Healthy: Things You Should Do

As life goes by, we often forget to prioritise our health, our wellbeing. It somehow is always second chair, something we think about when and if we have time. That is detrimental. It reduces the quality of our lives and takes a toll on us in the long term. So how do we live healthy? How do we become conscious? What can we do to incorporate a healthier lifestyle? Read on to find out!

Regular Health Check-ups

As adults, a typical comprehensive check-up is advised yearly after the tender age of 35, to check your heart health, to check if you have your diabetes control, and to check for other things such as cholesterol, amongst many other things. Though, other kinds of check-ups are recommended even in your twenties. Going to the ophthalmologist everyone and a half year if you wear prescription glasses can help stay away from terrible headaches, if your number goes unchecked. Similarly, making sure that your body mass index is in check is also something you can start in your early twenties and check through the rest of your adult life.

Keeping your nutrition in check

While life may become too fast paced to keep up with, it’s important that this doesn’t make us forget about what our body needs to survive, and to thrive. One of the most important things is making sure that you get the right nutrients in what you eat, and aid that through supplements if you aren’t meeting the right levels. This means making sure you know what “optimal” means for you and your body type and having a go to for any kind of supplement you may require, whether it be a calcium supplement or vitamin D tablet. Make a meal plan, track your intake, make sure that you are eating enough nutritious food, and balancing the unhealthy in your life.

Having a routine

This is one of the most underrated way to keep your life in check. Set a routine. When you sleep should be consistent, what you do before you sleep should be mindful, such as staying away from screens one hour before you go to bed. Similarly, make sure you being your morning right – with a little bit of meditation, a quick workout and a warm beverage of your choice, whether that is chamomile tea, turmeric milk or coffee. Make time for yourself in your day, get up and walk around, stretch between meetings, and each week, wind down, by yourself, reflecting on the week you’ve had. Being healthy is a combination of physical health and mental health and practicing gratitude can make you more peaceful and optimistic on the whole.

Make time for exercise

Often dreadful, but never avoidable, it is essential that you make time to work out. These can be as simple as a weekly trek, or a structured weight training programme. Find a form that works for you and work hard! Not only does this ensure a healthy body, but the endorphins also released during each workout sets you off for a better day ahead. It may be hard to get into a routine, but once you are there, you’ll wonder how you ever got through life without it!
