Calcium and its Importance

 The human body is complicated and requires several kinds of nutrients and minerals to support its function. One of the most important minerals that every individual must have is calcium. Primarily, when someone thinks of calcium, the immediate association is strong bones and strong teeth, which is true. Calcium, in sufficient amounts over the lifetime of an individual, also helps in preventing osteoporosis. If an individual is lacking calcium intake, they must incorporate calcium supplement in their lifestyle, to prevent a further deterioration of their health.

 

One of the sources of calcium is through milk, and from a very young age, it is instilled into a child’s mind that a glass or two of milk daily is a necessity for growth, and for the sustenance of their health. Milk is also a way to give children other kinds of nutrients that they might require, such as turmeric milk to boost immunity, and have antioxidants incorporated in their food.

 

While bone and teeth health are determined by calcium, this mineral has several other effects on one’s body. It is responsible for making our blood clot, and our muscles contract and is an important mineral to keep our heart beating. Calcium is primarily stored in our teeth and bones, in fact 99% of calcium is stored there. Our body then moves the calcium out of our bones when required to maintain a level of calcium in our blood that is consistent.

 

It is important to maintain good levels of calcium in our body. This is because our body tends to take calcium away from our bones if the right about of calcium is not present in our blood, causing a loss in bone mass. Overtime, this causes week bones and gives one a lot of difficulty in life. This can also lead to an eventual case of osteoporosis which has no cure.

 

Calcium is important, so make sure that you are regulating your diet and tracking your calcium intake, for the sake of a healthy life.
